Quik Series Crack
Fortnite’s Crack in the Sky. Remember, there are only 10 days left in Season 4 of Fortnite: Battle Royale. That means that whatever it is Epic Games has in store for this particular suite of madness that it’s unleashed with Saturday’s rocket launch has to move pretty quickly, and we don’t even really know how much the developer has in store. For right now, we can track a few things in the game. There are two portals in the world that have begun to eat both the motel and Lonely Lodge, and both appear to be growing. And, most obviously, there’s a giant crack in the sky that nobody knows quite what to do with.

And that crack appears to be growing quite quickly. Here’s the crack as it first appeared, at a replay of mine from 1:34 on June 30. It’s big, and it stretches pretty far to the south, but the northern tendrils, in particular, are fairly short.
Fortnite’s crack in the sky At first I was calling this a portal, and it may still empty out another world at the big glowy part in the middle. But the way that it’s moving across the sky definitely makes “crack” feel like the appropriate word, and it looks more and more like a fracture in the dome that forms the storm and constricts over the course of the match: it looks like a piece of ice that’s slowly losing structural integrity as somebody steps on it. It leads to the obvious question: is this crack going to break, and the whole of the sky come crashing down upon us?
Will the magic of the storm envelop the game and cause some sort of map-scale changes that have something to do with the portals that we see opening up elsewhere? And just how quickly will this all happen? Season 4 enters into its final week on Thursday, and it’s entirely possible that we’re going to see a limited time mode somehow connected to what’s happening in the sky, possibly the escort mission “Leviathan” that some people have been talking about. It’s clear that Epic is intent at daily updates at this point, so stay tuned.
