I encountered the same problem over and over and searched the web for a solution. I FINALLY got QPST to work on one of my computers but it took a lot of trial and error. These are the LONG steps I took, pieced together from other people's solutions, to finally get QPST to work. Keep in mind, these steps may or may not work for you. Uninstall ALL Motorola software (RSD lite, Media Link, etc.) 2.
Uninstall QPST (my belief is to start 'fresh' with a new install). Use a registry scanner to scan the registry and remove any and all traces of any Motorola and QPST artifacts left over in the registry to ensure that any potential conflicts are eliminated (I used the freeware program, CCleaner, to do the registry scan. Also, call me extreme but I didn't rely on CCleaner alone to scan the registry. I also manually went into the registry through 'Regedit' and did a text search for any traces of any 'Motorola', 'QPST' or 'Qualcomm' that CCleaner may have been missed and deleted the string. I'm not saying that this is necessary but this is what I did. And there's always a chance you may inadvertently delete crucial code so I wouldn't do this unless the other steps don't work). REBOOT afterwards.
Do a clean install of the Motorola drivers. Plug your phone in to the USB cable and let the drivers automatically install. After the initial driver installation completes, change the USB Connection setting and select all the other settings to install the for those (i.e., 'Charge Only'; 'USB Mass Storage', etc.). Different drivers should install for each setting. Install the latest build of the QPST software. Power down your phone.
Now, you'll place the Photon into Diagnostics mode by following the instructions on this post () which says, a. Hold volume down and power to get into the bootloader menu; b. Press volume down until you see BP Tools; c. Press volume up; d.
New drivers should install. Pay attention to see what port # is listed. The phone will now boot up and HOPEFULLY, you won't get any errors when you open up QPST and try and add the Port that contains your phone (referenced above).
Again, the above steps are what worked for me after RESEARCHING far and wide for a solution (The Port error message drove me up the wall and I was determined to find a fix for it. Based on the my solution, I'm guessing (emphasizing the word 'Guess') that there was some sort of conflict between the Motorola software (I suspect Media Link) and QPST with the use of the assigned Port# when the Photon was plugged in to the USB. Hopefully, that will be the case for you and the above will resolve your port conflict issues. Is there any way to toggle the PRL on the phone itself, other than reloading the official sprint PRL? Is it possible to edit a PRL? If so, can it be modified to apply only in specific areas?
Or are cell networks like WiFi networks, where a whole network shares a single identifier like ssid? So giving one network preference gives it preference everywhere? Ideally, I'd like to roam off Sprint only in specific locations in my local area that I know to have bad service.
